Ennoblement:
Several genealogical databases as well French genealogical studies agree that the Gaigneron family was ennobled in 1816 by His Majesty Louis XVIII (1755-1824) of Bourbon, King of France and Navarre.
As the Viscount Albert Révérend stated in his study:
"Titre de comte héréditaire en faveur de Marie-Jacques Gaigneron-Jollimon de MAROLLES, conseilleur général de Loir-et-Cher, par lettres patents du 1er juin 1816, avec règlement d'armoiries: d'argent, au chevron, d'azur, accompagné de trois têtes de coqs du même arrachées.." (Révérend:1903, 108).
Furthermore, Letters Patent exist in the Cabinet des Titres (see below) to certify that Jacques GAIGNERON JOLIMONT , Sieur (Lord) de Marolles (born in Martinique in 1775 and died in Tours in 1855) was created hereditary Count de Marolles on June 1, 1816.

The First Count de Gaigneron-Jollimont de Marolles
Marie-Jacques was the son of Charles-Joseph de GAIGNERON JOLLIMONT, Sieur de Marolles (1747-1785) and Marie Louise Elizabeth des VERGES de SANOIS (1755-1796). He was born in La Martinique and died in Tours (Indre-et-Loire). In 1802, Marie- Jacques returned to France from England and settled in Touraine; the ancestral home of the Gaigneron family. He occupied the position of Conseiller général de Loir-et-Cher.

5) Charles Camille Édouard Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles 1807-1895 (5th Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles) and First Viscount de Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles.
According to the "Dictionnaire des familles françaises" (1929), upon the death of Charles (also known as Charles Camille) in 1895, the male line descendants of Jacques become extinct.
After the death of the last direct male descendant of Jacques Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles (1775-1855) in 1895, it is our hypothesis that the title of Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles passes to the line of Louis-Adolphe Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles (1829-1899).
Louis-Adolphe was the direct male descendant of the brother of Jacques, Marie-Joseph-Nicolas Gaigneron Jollimont (1781-1850).
Descendants of Marie-Joseph-Nicolas Gaigneron Jollimont (1781-1850)

5) Mathieu de Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles (Hereditary 10th Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles)
6) Antoine de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles (2003-), Hereditary 11th Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles
Genealogical Clarification:
What is the relationship between the "Gaigneron Jolimont de Marolles" family and the "de Marolles" family? Are they two separate families or one? Which family uses the title Count de Marolles after 1895?
Just like the Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles family, the "de Marolles" family traces their origin to Touraine.
According to the "Annuaire de la noblesse de France et des maisons souveraines de l'Europe" (1905), the founder of the de Marolles dynasty was Guillaume de Marolles, Sgr (Lord) de Marolles who married Guillemette BOUTET in 1432 and issued: Jean and Robert.
The family line continued into the 20th century in the person of Louis Roger Gérard de MAROLLES (1851-1941), Vice-Admiral and Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and his two sons Louis and Jacques de Marolles.
The Gaigneron-Jollimont-de Marolles family is completely separate from the "de Marolles" family. Their third last name or title is cause for confusion but we have clearly established (see de Marolles post) that they are not one and the same.
