The "Campagne de la Baltique Sur" (The South Baltic Campaign - The Crimean War) and the Nicolazo de Barmon Family (1856)

"Action in the Baltic Sea" (Source 5)

According to certain historians, the Baltic campaign during the Crimean War was forgotten a major theater of war. However, the action was very important because of the proximity to the capital of the Russian Empire, Saint Peterbourg. In short, during the month of April (1854), an Anglo-French fleet was sent to attack the Russian seaport of Kronstadt. The Russian seaport was heavily guarded and the Anglo-French troops made to attempts to take it. At the end, the only thing that the combined Anglo-French troops could do was to act as a trade blockade. The fleet assembled in the Baltic Sea was considered by Naval Historians as the largest since the end of the Napoleonic Wars (Source 6).

The Order of Medjidié (Public Domain)
During the Crimean conflict, the Nicolazo de Barmon family was deeply involved. Louis IV and his two sons: Louis-Jehan-Marie-Antoine-Ulric and Hipolyte-Louis-Marie-Clément served in the French Imperial Navy. In fact, Louis IV and his sons served on the same boat. As a result of Louis IV's fine service to France and Turkey, he was awarded membership in the Legion of Honor and the Imperial Order of Medjidié Fourth Class, according to the data base of the Legion of Honor.
