The Second Count de Marolles
Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles was born on September 18, 1801 and died in Tours on April 9, 1873 at the age of seventy-one. He was the son of Marie Jacques Gaigneron Jollimont, First Count de Marolles (1775-1855) and Elisa HUSSEY-MONTAGU (1780-1865).
The Gaigneron and the Wine Business
In 1833, Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles married Elisabeth LAWTON (1817-1888). She was the daughter of Jean Edouard LAWTON and Anna Suzanne GUESTIER who was the daughter of the Baron Daniel GUESTEIR.The LAWTON family were pioneers in the wine business. They were part of the Tastet & Lawton firm which was established in 1740 with the intention of documenting the production of wine in France. The firm continues to this day.
The eldest daughter of the Count de Marolles, Anna married William JOHNSTON was part of the firm Johnston and Son. They were also in the wine production and sale. William JOHNSTON was the owner of l'Abbaye d'Aiguesvives, Faverolles sur Cher. After the death of this first wife he married her sister Alice.
Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles and Elisabeth LAWTON issued
- Jacques 1834-1879, 3rd Count de Marolles. Died without issue. [note that there is a genealogical discrepancy about his existence]
- Edouard Gaigneron de Marolles 1835-1882, 4th Count de Marolles,Lieutenant au 10° chasseurs and no issue.
- Anna Gaigneron de Marolles 1837-1870 married William JOHNSTON and had issue.
- Alice Gaigneron de Marolles 1845-1923 married William JOHNSTON and had no issue.
Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor
On April 30, 1843 Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles was made a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. As a career officer in the French Army, he archived the rank of Capitaine de cavalerie.
At this Requiem Mass, celebrated on April 9, 1873 many of his relatives were present including his son and heir, Edouard.
