Honneur et la Gloire (Decorations)


This blog entry recognizes the long service of  House of GAIGNERON JOLLIMON(T) de MAROLLES to FRANCE by honoring recipients of major honors. Some of these honors were given by former Kings and Presidents of France for military and personal endeavors.


Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur

(The National Order of the Legion of Honor)

Original Legion of Honor Founded By the Emperor Napoleon



The Legion of Honor of France was established by His Imperial Majesty, Napoleon the First on May 19, 1802. Unlike previous orders of merit, there was no requirement of nobility to become a member. Membership existed in five categories: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer), and Grand Croix (Grand Cross). The motto of the order is "honneur et patrie" (honor and country). The Legion of Honor was created to replace the Order of Saint Louis which was established in 1693.


Many members of the The House of GAIGNERON  received this great honor. The list is by date of appointment to the Legion of Honor.



I. Alfred Louis Casimir de GAIGNERON, Count de MAROLLES (1843)



On April 4, 1843 he was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.


Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles was born on September 18, 1801 and died in Tours on April 9, 1873 at the age of seventy-one. He was the son of Marie Jacques GAIGNERON JOLLIMON,  First Count de Marolles (1775-1855) and Elisa HUSSEY (1780-1865).



II. Nicolas Léon GAIGNERON de MAROLLES (1849)


He was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor on May 3 1849.  Nicolas Léon was born in 1837 and died January 13, 1885. He was married to Marthe-Inès de Gaigneron (1837-1914)

Nicolas Léon was the son of  Marie Rose Nicolas Christophe ( dit Sainte Rose) Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles (1783-1857)  and  Céline de MASSIAS de BONNE (1799-1835).

III. Louis Alexandre GAIGNERON DE LA GUILLOTIERE (1864)



On August 13, 1864, he was created Officer of the Legion of Honor. Louis Alexandre was a surgeon in the French Navy. He was born in 1824 and died on June 22, 1886.

IV. Nicolas George GAIGNERON  de MAROLLES (1910)


Nicolas Georges was created a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor July 12, 1910.

Born on July 11, 1863 to  Nicolas Léon and  Marthe-Inès, Nicolas Georges was a career officer. Having archived the rank of Chef de Batallion and Major-Captain in the French Armed Forces. He died on March 6, 1920.


V. Marie-Robert-Jacques de Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles (1900-1980)

Appointment as Officer of the Legion of Honor. He was a military commander who participated in World War I and World War II.

V. Jean de GAIGNERON-MORIN (1932) 

 

V. François-Xavier de GAIGNERON de MAROLLES (1935-2019)

Hes colonel in the French Air Forces and he graduated from the École de l'air, promotion 1956 « lieutenant Le Cong ».


He was the son of Louis de Gaigneron-Jollimont-de Marolles, Viscount de Marolles, (1901-1977) and Denise Doussau- Neurisse-de Bazignan (1906-1977).
