The Châteaux de Bois-Briand (1405-1699) - Nantes

History of Bois-Briand:

In 2008, the French government declared the château de Bois-Briand  a "National Monument". The castle had several names during its log history such as 1) Bois-Briant, 2) Bois-Brient, and 3) Bois Brillant.

The building of the castle began in 1405 and was not finished until 1699. It was around that time that the CHARETTE family sold the castle to the Le MENEUST des TREILLES. The castle changes from a fortification to a place of pleasure. This change meant that fruits and wine were produced.

By 1820, the château de Bois-Briand was sold to the Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles family. Among the family members that lived there was Rose-Louise-Césarine-Laure Gaigneron de Marolles (1801-1829), daughter of the  Joseph Gaigneron de Marolles (1773-1799) and Anne-Rose Budan (1782). She was also the sister of Marguerite-Marie-Amélie Gaigneron de Marolles (1800). The castle was sold to Olivier MAIRY. Today the château de Bois-Briand is in the hands of the city of Nantes.

The Châteaux de Chissay (1543) - Tours (Indre-et-Loire)

History of de Chissay:

The original castle was build by Charles VII (1403-1461) for Pierre BERARD, Chancellor of France, who was the husband of Anne de RONDARD.

In 1577, the castle was sold to Philibert BABOU, Lord of Bourdaisière, Treasurer of the King, for 16,690 Pounds. The castle remained in the hands of the family until the French Revolution.

By 1795, Chissay become the property of the Count Marie-Jacques Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles (1775-1855). It appears that castle remained in the hands of the Gaigneron family until the late 19th century. The castle passed on to Alfred-Louis-Casimir Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles (1801-1973), Second Count de Marolles, and then to his sons, Jacques (1834-1879),Third Count de Marolles, and Edouard (1835-1882), Fourth Count de Marolles.

During the 20th century, the castle was owned by the Baron and Baroness of GARTEMPE. The castle served as the headquarters for the french army during World War II and the future of France was decided there by General Charles de Gaulle (Source 3).

Château des Agneaux (1700) - Agneaux

History

The Château des Agneaux and the farm known as Bourbonderie in Ozoir-la-Ferriere was bought by the Astier family. The castle and land might have been part of the dowry of Marthe Astier for her marriage to the Viscount  Marie-Joseph-Elie de Gaigneron-Morin.  In 1925, Madame Marthe de Gaigneron- Morin sold it to an important land-owner from Ozoir-la-Ferrière, Mr. Guillaume MAURICE. Later Mr. Maurice sold the castle to an American editor named Elmer Sidney PRATHER who turned it the "American Country Club" from 1926 to 1940.

Habitation Gaigneron Grand Case - Lamentin (1671)

History of L'habitation Grand Case

The habitation Grand Case which comprised 410 hectares belonged, early on in the colonization of Martinique, to the Gemosat-Macharis family and its descendants. It was later bought in 1770 by the Gaigneron-Jollimont de Marolles family. They resided in the habitation for about 150 years. In 1920 the Gaigneron family sold the property to Mr. Arthur Duplessis who in 1944 sold it to Mr. de Clauzel. He in turn sold the property to Mr. Huyges Despointes in 1958. By the time he bought the property there were only 158 hectares left of the original land. The property is now owned by Gros-Desormeaux family.
