Viscount Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles

Charles-Édouard-Rose-Camille de GAIGNERON JOLLIMONT de MAROLLES  (1807-1895)

Early Life:


Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille was the second son of Marie-Jacques GAIGNERON JOLLIMONT de MAROLLES, Count de GAIGNERON-JOLLIMONT de MAROLLES, created hereditary Count in the Kingdom of France  by Letters Patent of June 1, 1816 from His Majesty, King Louis XVIII (1744-1824) of the House of Borbon. His mother was Elizabeth HUSSEY MONTAGU (1780-1895).

Biogrpahical Note:
 Elizabeth HUSSEY MONTAGU was the daughter of  the Edward HUSSEY MONTAGU, Earl of Beaulieu (1721-1802) and Martha HOWELL. She was born in New Windsor (United Kingdom).

A Royal Page:


At some point, Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille de GAIGNERON JOLLIMONT de MAROLLES  (1807-1895) was created Viscount of Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles. Perhaps, he was created a Viscount due to his service as  a Royal Page to Their Most Christian  Majesties Louis XVIII de Bourbon (1755-1824) and  Charles X de Bourbon (1757-1830), Kings of France and Navarre.

After departing the service of His Majesty, Charles Xth, in 1825 at the age of twenty, the Viscount Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles was given a sword as a gift. This gift was called the "Sortie des Pages" (Source 4).

Marriage and Family:


Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille was also Captain of the French Cavalry and married Caroline JUTEAU (1820-1884). 

In 1882, Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille become the 5th Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles at the death of his nephew Edouard Gaigneron de Marolles 1835-1882 (4th Count de Marolles).

Charles -Édouard-Rose-Camille and Caroline had only one daughter:

Joseph-Marcel-Marie de Piolec was the son of Joseph-Alexandre, marquis de Piolenc (1801-1859) and Adrienne de Morgan de Belloy  (1809-1877)

Details about the sword come from a magazine article in "Les épées portées en  france" by Mr. Jean L'Hoste (1978). The sword appears to have come on auction recently but we are uncertain if the "Accent Antique" is the current owner of the sword.
