Branch de la Grandière (1405)
Jean GAIGNERON (1405), Seigneur de la Grandière, was born in the city of Loches in the former province of Touraine in 1405. The city is close to the city of Tours which was an ancient center for learning in France during the Middle Ages.
He occupied the position of Lieutenant particulier (Civil Judge) and in 1454 he married Dorothée de LA TOUR and issued two children.

Michel GAIGNERON (1450), Seigneur de Gaudinière
In about 1450, he was Captain at château de Loches for René of Anjou (1409 – 1480), duc d' Anjou, and Captain for Charles of Maine (1446–1481).
He married Marie Anne de MALVAUX and issued one child (Jacques).
Jacques GAIGNERON (1500-), Seigneur de Gaudinière
He married on August 31, 1533 Antoinette de CLOUX and issued (two children):
a. Barthélémy GAIGNERON (1539-1589), Seigneur des Roches, married Françoise PRUDHOMME de La PAPINIÈRE
b. Marie GAIGNERON ( ?) married Antoine de MAROLLES
[Note: Antoinette de CLOUX remarried in 1569 Jean de Marolles, the father of Antoine de Marolles. Antoine was the husband of Marie GAIGNERON. This marriage is the FIRST and ONLY genealogical link between the de MAROLLES and GAIGNERON families.]

On April 12, 1587, Jean married Jeanne de BEAUVAIS and issued several children one being Jacques.Jacques GAIGNERON (1592), Procureur au siege royal
Baptized in 1592 at Saint Ours in Loches and married on January 13, 1656 to Perrine MORIN and issued four children (Jacques, Gabriel, Gilles, and Claude)

(Branch that Moved to Martinique)
Claude GAIGNERON (1626), Seigneur de la Guillotière
He was the son of Jean GAIGNERON and Perrine MORIN.
Claude was baptized at Saint-Ours in Loches on September 11, 1626 and at some point in his life he moved to the Island of Martinique (French Colony in the Caribbean).
He arrived to Martinique in about 1655.
It was there that he married on January 18, 1656 Anne AUBESTER or ANABESTER (from Scotland) and issued three children:
1) Claude GAIGNERON (1656)
2) Jean GAIGNERON (1658-1728), author of the GUILLOTIERE Branch II (see below).
3) André GAIGNERON
The GAIGNERON family are thus among the first families that settled the Island of Martinique. For over three hundred yeas they were prominent land holders and married other important families of the island.

Claude GAIGNERON de La Guillotière (1656), Sargent of the Martinique Militia
Claude, like his brother and sister were the first GAIGNERON to be born in the New World. He was baptized at the church of Saint Pierre in Martinique on November 2, 1656.On August 5 1680 he married Françoise Le DANNOIS. She was the daughter of Nicolas and Françoise D'ARGENVILLIERS.

Charles Joseph was born in Lamentin, Martinique on January 27, 1747 and died on March 1, 1785. On July 20, 1772 he married a member of prominent Martinique family, Marie Louise Elizabeth des VERGERS de SANNOIS (+1796).

Marie-Jacques (Jacques Marie) GAIGNERON JOLLIMON (1775-1855), First Count of Marolles (1775-1855)
On June 1, 1816, by the Grace of His Majesty King Louis XVIII de Borbon (1755 – 1824) of France and Navarre, Marie Nicolas Joseph was created Count de MAROLLES in the Kingdom of France.
Marie-Jacques Gaigneron-Jollimont de Marolles returned to France in about 1850 and died in Tours on March 26, 1855 (Source 1).
The branch of Marie Nicolas Joseph returned to France in about 1802 after the Peace of d'Amiens. It also appears that he spent time in England from 1790 to 1802.
In 1796, possibly exiled in England, he married Elisabeth HUSSEY (1780-1865) and issues three children
1) Robertine-Charlotte-Emilie-Roxane (1800-1881), married March 16, 1881 to Marc Auguste Hyacithe de PUGET, Count of Barbantane
2) Alfred-Louis-Casimir, 2nd Count de Marolles (1801-1873) married Elisabeth LAWTON (1817-1888)
3) Charles-Edouard-Rose-Camille (1807-1895) married Marie-Caroline JUTEAU, 3rd Count de Marolles and First Viscount de Marolles
Note on Last Name:
From 1816 on the GAIGNERON JOLLIMON branch of the family has added the last name of "de Marolles".
Some genealogies indicate that the title is Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles which causes confusion. As it stands, these are the possible combinations found:
1) Count de Marolles (June 1, 1816 in Letter Patent)
2) Viscount de Marolles (1873, Requiem Card of Alfred Louis Casimir and used by the Gaigneron-Morin branch of the family)
3) Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles (online genealogy data banks)
Alfred Louis Casimir GAIGNERON JOLLIMON de MAROLLES (1801-1873), Count de Marolles
In 1833, Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles married Elisabeth LAWTON (1817-1888). She was the daughter of Jean Edouard Lawton and Anna Suzanne GUESTIER who was the daughter of the Baron Daniel GUESTEIR.
On April 30, 1843 Alfred Louis Casimir Gaigneron Jollimon de Marolles was made a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. As a career officer in the French Army, he archived the rank of Capitaine de cavalerie.
Alfred Louis Casimir and Elisabeth LAWTON issued four children:
1) Jacques -Edouard (1834-1879), 4th Count de Marolles and had no issue
2) Anna (1837-1870) married William Johnston.
3) Alice (1845-1923)
[Note that some genealogies do not include Jacques as the son of Alfred Louis Casimir. He does not appear by name in the Requiem Card of 1873. Only his brother Edouard does.]
Jacques-Edouard GAIGNERON JOLLIMON de Marolles (1834-1879), Calvary Lieutenant, Count de Marolles
Son of Alfred Louis Casimir, Second Count de Marolles and Elisabeth LAWTON died with no issue. He died in Royan on August 1, 1879.Viscount de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles Branch (1807-1895)
Charles Edouard Rose Camille GAIGNERON JOLLIMON de Marolles (1807-1895), First Viscount de Marolles
At some point he was created Viscount de Marolles. He married on June 1840 Caroline JUTEAU (1820-1884) and issued only one child:

It would appear that upon the death of this brother Alfred Louis Casimir in 1873 and his two nephews Jacques in 1879 and Edouard in 1882, Charles Edouard Rose Camille would have become the COUNT de MAROLLES in 1882. This would explain why his wife, Caroline Juteau who died in 1884 was referred to as The Countess de Maroless in the funeral mass invitation issued on the date of her death.
Moreover, according to the Dictionnaire des familles françaises (1929), Charles Edouard Rose Camille is considered to be the last Count de Marolles (p.24).
For the title of Count de Marolles to have legally passed to another branch of the family, it probably need Royal Sanction. By the time that Charles Edouard Rose Camille died, France was a Republic and thus these types of disputes may not have had legal standing.
However, we propose the theory that the title and dignity of Count de Marolles did pass on and is now with the descendants of Marie Joseph Nicolas GAIGNERON JOLLIMON.

Title Passes to the Brother of the First Count Gaigneron Jolimont de Marolles: Marie Joseph-Nicolas GAINGERON JOLLIMONT de MAROLLES
Marie Jacques GAIGNERON JOLLIMONT, First Count de Marolles had several brothers. One of them was Marie-Joseph-Nicolas Gaigneron Jollimont (1781-1850).
It is possible that his title passed on to the branch established by Marie Nicolas Joseph GAIGNERON JOLLIMON who was born in 1781 in Lamentin, Martinique and died in Paris in about 1850. He married twice:
1) On June 3, 1807 to Anne du BUC de SAINT-PRIX (1790-1808) and had no issue.

At some point, the family of Marie Nicolas Joseph and Louise Cesarine moved to France because their eldest son was born in Paris in 1829. So between 1810 and 1829, this branch returned to France.
Louis-Adolphe GAIGNERON JOLLIMON (1820-1899), Count de Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles
He was born in Paris on September 4, 1829 and died on May 14, 1899. Thus, for a period of two years after his uncle Charles
Edouard Rose Camille died he was Count de Marolles.
